Week 0 Preview: Rancho Verde Hosts Redlands East Valley
Rancho Verde opens its 2026 campaign at home on Thursday, August 20, when Redlands East Valley visits Moreno Valley for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff. The Thursday-night stage gives the Mustangs an early opportunity to set the tone for the new season in front of their community.
The Mustangs enter Week 0 after a productive road scrimmage at Canyon Springs. That work supplied the staff with live film, tested the team's communication and allowed multiple players to compete for defined roles. The opener now requires a shift from evaluation to execution.
KEY 1: PLAY PHYSICAL, PLAY CONTROLLED
Rancho Verde's identity is strengthened when the team is decisive at the line of scrimmage. Physical football is most effective when paired with technique and discipline. Staying square, maintaining leverage and avoiding unnecessary penalties can help the Mustangs control the flow of the game.
KEY 2: WIN FIELD POSITION
Special teams and possession decisions will matter. A dependable punt, clean return and smart finish to each drive can force the opponent to cover a longer field. Field-position advantages also give the defense more flexibility with its calls.
KEY 3: TRUST THE DEPTH
The scrimmage created meaningful repetitions for players throughout the roster. Week 0 will test how well the Mustangs maintain their standard as personnel rotates. Consistent communication from every unit can turn depth into a competitive advantage.
