THE BYE IS OVER: Valley View Returns with Weapons, Speed and Something to Prove

MORENO VALLEY — Valley View spent last week away from the scoreboard, but nobody should confuse a bye week with silence.

The Eagles are 2–1, rested and preparing to return on the road against Upland on Friday, September 18. Their last appearance was a 41–28 loss to Vista del Lago, a game that ended an undefeated start but also showed Valley View can create points against a quality city opponent.

Before that loss, the Eagles opened with a 28–13 victory over Claremont and a 52–12 win over SLAM Nevada. That is 108 points through three games—an average of 36 per night. When Valley View finds rhythm, the scoreboard can move fast.

The center of that attack is junior running back Bobby Greer. He is averaging 155.7 rushing yards per game and has scored five total touchdowns. Greer gives the Eagles the kind of dependable production every offense wants: a runner who can carry the load, control tempo and turn a crease into a problem.

The passing game has targets too. Kaijon Mathis leads the team at 78 receiving yards per game, while Dominic DuBois has made an impact as a receiver and return threat. The combination gives Valley View multiple ways to stress a defense and create explosive moments.

Defensively, the name jumping off the page is Scott Baldwin. The junior safety has four interceptions through three games. Four. That is not luck. That is anticipation, range and a defender who believes the ball belongs to him when it enters his part of the field.

Senior linebacker Daryeon Scott leads the defense at 6.7 tackles per game, while freshman defensive lineman Dareon Brown has already produced two sacks. The Eagles have playmakers at every level, from the front to the secondary.

The bye week gave Valley View time to study the Vista loss without letting it define the season. The next challenge is significant. Upland will demand discipline, toughness and clean execution on the road. But this is also the perfect stage for the Eagles to remind the Inland Empire what the first two weeks already suggested.

Valley View can score. Valley View can take the ball away. Valley View can make a game chaotic in a hurry.

The break is over. The wings are fresh. Now the Eagles get to show what they learned.
