Valley View Football Scrimmage Recap: Eagles Gain Valuable Road Reps at Bonita

Valley View High School traveled to Bonita on Thursday, August 13, for a varsity scrimmage that gave the Eagles an important early test away from home. With the 2026 opener approaching, the road setting allowed Valley View to evaluate more than individual plays. The staff could assess communication, substitution flow, sideline organization and how the group handled unfamiliar surroundings.

VALUABLE REPS BEFORE THE SCOREBOARD COUNTS

Scrimmages are built for teaching. There is no official result, and the most important information comes from the film: who communicated clearly, who executed with proper technique and which combinations gave the team the best rhythm. Valley View received a full evening of useful evidence in each of those areas.

The Eagles were able to rotate personnel and expose younger contributors to varsity speed. Those reps matter because depth is developed before it is needed. Every successful substitution, alignment check and special-teams transition strengthens the program's ability to respond over a complete season.

BUILDING THE TEAM'S IDENTITY

Valley View's standard is rooted in confident, physical football. The Bonita scrimmage gave the offense opportunities to establish timing and gave the defense chances to communicate against different looks. The emphasis moving forward will be consistency: turning individual positive plays into complete drives and complete defensive series.

The most encouraging part of a preseason road test is that it reveals exactly what deserves attention. The Eagles can return to practice with focused corrections while also reinforcing the habits that traveled well. That combination is how good teams make meaningful progress between a scrimmage and an opener.

Valley View opens the regular season at home against Claremont on Friday, August 21, at 7:00 p.m. The Eagles will have the opportunity to bring the lessons from Bonita back to Moreno Valley and perform in front of their home community.
